Sketch, the Must-have Software for UI/UX Designers — This time, we’ll give you insights to those that are interested in multimedia and design, with Sketch being the software for us to discuss and review. Let’s start.

What is Sketch App?

There are a lot of alternatives from Photoshop and Illustrator when it comes to design, with Sketch being one of them but unfortunately this application is limited exclusively to Mac OS users. Sketch is an application made to design screen media, special using with ui designer. This iOS X based application is designed to help UI and web designers alike. Other than being able to process screens, the application Sketch can also be used to process images in form of vectors with pixel perfect precision.

Sketch’s interface is just like any other OS X applications. The main functions are served on the menu toolbar, with layers positioning and effects available on the windows. But despite its strengths, Sketch too have some weaknesses. For example, there’s no shortcut available to activate an effect because the application itself rely on its point-and-click.

Although this software hasn’t been used as much back in the day, its popularity skyrocketed recently as the go to software for UI design due to Sketch having a lot of templates to choose from to help speed up web designers’ performance, whether it being web applications, desktop, or mobile.

Not only that, Sketch also provides template that can be used to design icons, making it very useful for those that are working on their application. Sketch also gives additional features when it comes to designing a website such as effects, and font types that are unavailable in another app. Lastly, Sketch is very user friendly to design a mobile application with the open-source that it brings.

What are the Advantages of Sketch App?

There are three main reason why you should use Sketch as a ui designer.

  1. Sketch’s License

First and foremost is its licensing system. With Sketch, users are only required to buy the software once, with its license able to be used for as long as you want, including the updates that comes with the software. But once the license expires after one year, the application itself can still be used indefinitely but the users will be required to renew in order to get the latest update.

2. User Friendly and Easy to Use

Sketch is much easier to use compared to its alternatives, and speaking as a web designer, one of the things that I appreciate the most with Sketch is its high render quality, which means that every design that you make will look almost identical to what the HTML/CSS page will be.

3. Based on Vector

Being based on vector means that every image can be changed starting from its size into its dimensions without losing its sharpness. Therefore, the design will look stunning, even when being seen from a high fidelity monitor such as Apple’s Retinas.

Other than that, there are still a lot of advantages Sketch has over its competitors, here are a short summary of why you should use Sketch:

  • A hundred-percent based on vectors.
  • One image can be exported into various resolutions depending on the needs.
  • Pixel settings that are more flexible.
  • Can create lots of design pages in one main documents.
  • SVG export process is much easier.
  • Can create CSS easily through its plugins.

Enjoy!!
