The Most Used Font Family for Website and Applications in 2020

Font Family for Website and Application — As a web designer, surely you realize the importance of typography. With the growth in business and its tactic to market its product, the choices for font have become increasingly important. Other than web design, there are other things that should be paid attention to when serving a content. A content with elegant and beautiful font will make the website look livelier and more appealing overall to the visitors.

As such, font choices become very important when it comes to typography because depending on the fonts that we choose will decide what the visitors think of said website.

In this particular chance, we will discuss of the most often used font family for websites and applications. According to my own experience, there are certain fonts that very often used for a web development, whether it’s on an Android or desktop, here are some of them:

1. Proxima Nova

Proxima Nova was designed by Mark Simonson and was released in 2005, which is a modification of Proxima Sans in the 1994

2. Playfair Display

Usually used in a website serving agency, portfolio, travel, and blog fashion. Playfair fall under the Serif font category, making it very suitable when combined with Open Sans, Georgia, or Museo Sans.

3. Avenir

Avenir, a font designed by Adrian Frutiger and released in 1998 with type of Avenir fonts, such as Avenir Next (2004–2007) and Avenir Next Rounded (2012). Avenir is commonly used on a very popular applications such as Apple’s Maps, Siri, and even the newest Samsung Galaxy Logo.

4. Gotham

Gotham was a font created by Tobias Frere-Jones in the 2000, and is one of the most popular fonts in the world right now.

5. Franklin Gothic

Franklin Gothic was designed by Morris F.B in 1902. The font was commonly used for advertisements and newsletter at that time. The font family of this font includes Franklin Gothic, such as Alternate Gothic, Monotone Gothic, News Gothic, and Lightline Gothic. Mainly used for a lot of things, ranging from advertisements to websites.

6. Montserrat

The font Montserrat is very suitable for those needing a modern look for their product. It goes very well with other popular fonts the likes of Open Sans, Roboto Slab, and Lora. I personally used this font a lot for designing websites interfaces.

7. Lato

Lato means Summer in Polish, this was because the creator, Łukasz Dziedzic is a graphic designer from Poland. This font can be combined with fonts such as Merriweather and Lustria.

8. Roboto

This font is the standard for UI Guideline Google Material Design. Other than that, this font is also one of the most commonly used font for websites and mobile applications. A fitting combination for this font includes Poppins, Museo Sans, and Open Sans.

9. Open Sans

Open Sans is a font of Sans-Serif type that’s optimized for printed media, website, or mobile apps. This font pairs very well together with Montserrat, Roboto, Soruce Sans Pro, and Playfair Display.
