in this era where technology keeps advancing at a rapid pace, we often found works related to website and applications. But before diving in to the website world, it’s necessary to understand a couple of terms from it. For example, web designer and UI designer. There are many people that are confused on what’s the difference between the two of them. And although little, the difference between UI designer and Web designer still exist.

First thing first, it’s safe to say that neither of them are easy jobs. But they’re one that brings large income. Before we start discussing the difference between UI designer and Web designer, it’s best for us to know their definition first.

The Difference Between UI Designer and Web Designer

Despite both working on the same field they’re both different in what they’re doing. In order to understand the difference between UI designer and web designer, you can read the explanation down below:

1. UI Designer

User Interface designer is a profession that uses communication from the user with a system on a program. If a program is something from website, mobile, or software. It can be said that UI designer is a piece of web designer where their role is something more specific.

A UI designer work includes visual aspect that’s shown on a website, this includes color, layout, buttons, and typography. UI Designer is also responsible for the interface of a website so that it’s easy to use. Other than that, they also have to make an interface that’s easy to access.

Some said that UI designer is a designer that designs as sketches, web design or wireframe on an application, or tablets. A UI designer should be capable of making an interface that’s easy to use by the user or what’s more commonly know as a user-friendly interface.

The work UI designer does cover the planning of a flow for the user and making mockup or prototype. For large-scale company, a UI designer is very necessary to design a website layout or mobile application.

2. Web designer

Next, if we want to understand the difference between UI designer and web designer, knowing what web designer means is necessary. Web designer is a job that’s connected with web application. In short, web designer is responsible for the interface of a website.

In order to do this job properly, a basic understanding of website is necessary. This basic understanding includes the making of website element, starting from layout, font, images, graphic, design graphic, user interface design, and even content creating. These elements will decide how good a website look, feel, and function on any kind of device.

A web designer is considered good, or even better if they master the ability to code. This is important if a web designer will help the developer in building a website. That’s why just an understanding of typography and color is enough for a web designer. An understand of programming language such as CSS or JavaScript is often times necessary for them.

After understanding the meaning and definition for both of them, then we can start looking on what is the difference between UI designer and Web designer. A web designer only focuses on the making of a website, not just from its web design, but also on its programming language. Where as UI designer, is not only limited just to website but also other products from the company like mobile application, web application, etc.
